In
general the Dachshund breed of dogs are very adaptable
creatures, fitting well into city, country, house,
apartments, indoors or outside. They are excellent pets
for children, as well as the elderly, they make devoted
companions and guard dogs. With the proper love and care
they can live to be 18-20 years of age.
Dachshunds officially come in two sizes: minature and
standard. A minature, according to the CKC (Continental
Kennel Club) is a dog weighing under eleven pounds at one
year of age.
They also come in three coat types: smooth, longhair, and
wire. The variety of color and pattern choices make the
breed even more interesting and attractive. The longhair
dachshund only sheds periodicly when growing a new coat.
Females do tend to shed a little when they go in heat,
but not alot. This breed of dog does not drool, slobber,
nor have an offensive odor.
